Victim called Greek resort 'too wild'
Paddy Doran
Paddy Doran's mother says he was a 'gentle giant'
The mother of a teenager stabbed to death in a brawl in Faliraki says he should not have been allowed to visit bars at the Greek tourist resort.

Josie Doran said her son, Paddy, had phoned her before going out on 12 August to say the island was "too wild" for him and that he was planning on coming home early.

But he never had the chance - hours later, the 17-year-old was hit by a broken bottle during a scuffle at the Q Bar, which led to his death.

Josie Doran told BBC Look East taking part in a brawl would have been out of character for her son, who lived at a caravan site near Market Harborough in Leicestershire with his mother and grandmother.

She described a popular boy whose friends got together to pay for his holiday flight which was his first trip away from his family.

She said: "Paddy was just a big, gentle giant.

"I know the reason Paddy got killed - because he went in there to stop that fight - that's the kind he was.

"If he'd ever see a fight, he'd always go over to stop it. He'd always try to make peace."

She added: "He's the life and soul of our family, and he brought so much love and so much kindness to our life, and I just hate to think of living without him."

Mrs Doran said the clubs on Faliraki should either close down following the incident this month or begin to verify how old their patrons are.

She said: "My child was only 17. He shouldn't have been in that club in the first place."

Hundreds of people are expected to attend a memorial service for Paddy Doran was to be held at the Evangelical Church, in Bath Street, Market Harborough.

He will be buried at Towcester Road Cemetery, in Northampton, on Monday.

Peter Navarro, 21, of Leasowe, Wirral, has appeared before a court in Greece accused of manslaughter in connection with Mr Doran's death.
