Council set to sell road for 1
A road in Scarborough is to be sold for just 1 to speed up the development of a new business park that is expected to provide around 2,500 jobs.

The road, thought to be worth 300,000, provides access to the town's Seamer Carr landfill site, which is to be turned into a major new business park.

North Yorkshire County Council agreed to sell the road for 1 so work could begin quickly on the project.

The park is expected to generate the jobs on the site within 10 years.

Councillor Peter Sowray said: "We are delighted to be able to assist financially in this way.

"The Scarborough Business Park will be a major factor in the future prosperity not just of Scarborough, but of the entire coastal region of North Yorkshire."

Funding for the business park is being provided by Scarborough Borough Council, the European Community and regional development agency Yorkshire Forward.
