Birthday appeal on shooting death

Detectives say they remain determined to catch the killers of a woman who was shot and set alight in her own home.

Lucy Hargreaves, 22, was attacked by three men who broke into her home in Walton, Liverpool, in August 2005.

Her partner Gary Campbell escaped the burning house by jumping from a first floor window with her daughter.

Ms Hargreaves would have been 25 on Monday and her mother, Sylvia, urged anyone with information about the "inhuman" killing to come forward.

Mrs Hargreaves and her husband, Kenny, now look after their daughter's three children, aged five, six and eight.

"It's inhuman what these men did and we want to make an attempt at finding new evidence," said Mrs Hargreaves.

"Why would anyone not come forward? Why would they hide what they know? I would ask people to rethink and think about what these criminals have done and could do again.

"They have robbed Lucy's children of their mother - it's a life sentence for them."

Merseyside Police received a number of calls after a recent BBC Crimewatch appeal about Ms Hargreaves' murder but said they still needed more help from the local community.

Det Ch Insp Ian Mulcahey said: "Three years on from her death, we are as determined as ever to bring the offenders to justice.

"We understand that people are sometimes reluctant to come forward in the aftermath of such a serious crime as this, but Lucy was an innocent victim. It's never too late."

A 10,000 reward remains on offer for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the murder.

Detectives are continuing to seek Kevin Thomas Parle, 28, who they want to speak to in connection with the murder of Ms Hargreaves, and 16-year-old Liam Kelly, who was shot in Dingle in 2004.

They believe he was in the Torrevieja area of the Costa Blanca in Spain in autumn 2005 and was planning to travel to the United States.
