Funeral for murdered jail visitor

The funeral of a teenager who was shot in the head outside a Merseyside prison has been held.

Liam Smith, 19, of Walton, was shot outside HMP Altcourse in Higher Lane, Fazakerley, as he left after visiting a friend on 23 August.

Mr Smith is believed to have collapsed in the street by the prison as passers-by ran to his aid.

Detectives arrested two people but later released them on bail and are still appealing for witnesses.

The funeral service took place at St Teresa of the Child R C Church in Norris Green.
