Murder probe over Oldham street attack

A murder investigation is under way after a man died following a street attack in Greater Manchester.

Andrew Molloy, 25, was found with severe face and head injuries outside the Old Mess House pub in Yorkshire Street, Oldham early on Monday.

He died later in hospital. Police had received reports of men fighting near the public house shortly before they found Mr Molloy.

A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Det Ch Insp Jen Williams appealed to anyone who may have been standing at a nearby taxi rank to come forward if they witnessed the attack.

"They may not have realised quite how serious this attack was, so I'm appealing for them to contact us, as I'm certain they'll have vital information for us," she said.

"At the moment, his family are understandably distraught by what has happened, but we are doing all we can to find whoever carried out this attack."
