Umbro sport headquarters expands

England kit launch
Umbro supplies kits for the England football team

New jobs are expected to be created by sports brand Umbro as its Greater Manchester headquarters is expanded, the company has revealed.

As part of the expansion Umbro will be moving into larger offices at its present base in Cheadle Royal Business Park, in Cheadle, Stockport.

Matthew Cook, Umbro chief executive, said the company was looking forward to a "bright future" in Cheadle.

Umbro has been based in the Stockport area since 1924.

The sports brand supplied kits for the England football team as well as making strips for Everton and Rangers.

The company was bought out by sports giant Nike, for 285m, in 2007.

A spokesman for Umbro said job "increases are expected to be incremental" over the next few years.

Umbro currently employs 199 people at the site.

"We are excited to move our global head office into the larger new building and look forward to a bright future in Cheadle," said Mr Cook.
