The mother of a man who was shot in the head in a Greater Manchester takeaway has appealed to his killer's mother to hand her son in.

Halton McCollin, 20, died three days after he was shot in the China Garden in Stretford on 19 January.

Six months on, his mother Anne McCollin has appealed to the gunman's parents to "search their consciences".

The 52-year-old care home nursing manager added: "They must have an idea of what their children have done."

Detectives investigating the murder say they are beginning to receive key information that could help their investigation.

Greater Manchester Police's Major Incident Team has reviewed of CCTV footage, conducted interviews, analysed phone traffic and searched several addresses as part of the inquiry.

But officers are urging anyone with information to heed Ms McCollin's plea.

She said: "I would appeal directly to the mother of the murderer - from one mother to another. Please search your conscience. Come forward and help us get justice for Halton.

"Even if your son is in jail you can still see him and still hold him. I will never see my son again."

She described her son, a call centre worker and semi-professional footballer, as a "passing angel".

The former pupil at Parrs Wood High School was hit in the back of the head by a single bullet after two masked men burst into the takeaway and fired three times.

Ms McCollin added: "I would like to think that the parents of these people have an idea.

"I am a mother and I would ask the parents of the killers to search their consciences."

A 20,000 reward is in place for anyone who helps to convict Mr McCollin's murderers.
