A horse has died after its stable was set alight in a firework arson attack.

The stallion was one of six horses pulled from the stables in Bury, Greater Manchester but had to be put down after suffering severe burns.

Greater Manchester Fire Service said the fire, at a horse rehabilitation centre, was started deliberately.

Stable manager Jenny Rawlinson, said she was "disgusted" by the attack. She said the five other horses seemed unhurt, but had been left traumatised.

The sixth, three-year-old Warrior, was seriously injured by a piece of burning timber which landed on his back.

Firefighters got the fire under control quickly but the stables suffered severe damage and a barn was destroyed.
