Nicky Suddons
Nicky Suddons was a coward said police
An 18-year-old serial sex attacker who boasted about his crimes in internet chatrooms, has been jailed for life.

Nicky Suddons was described by one senior detective as a coward who had subjected his numerous victims to a "terrible ordeal".

Suddons, of Abbey Hey, admitted rape and six sex attacks.

His victims, aged between 13 and 28, were attacked on or near an East Manchester canal tow path over a period of weeks in the summer of 2004.

In hindsight perhaps things could have been done a bit differently
Det Ch Insp Jane Antrobus

Following the case, Det Ch Insp Jane Antrobus admitted some criticism of the investigation had been justified.

Former Deputy Chief Constable John Stalker and others had criticised GMP for not alerting the public early enough to the fact that a serial sex attacker was active.

DCI Antrobus said: "In hindsight perhaps things could have been done a bit differently, the press could have been informed earlier."

She said Suddons was a coward who had subjected his victims to terrible ordeals.

Computer records

"It is a great relief to get him off the streets," she added.

The 13-year-old girl was threatened with a broken pair of scissors in Droylsden, before he sexually assaulted her.

In his final attack he grabbed a 28-year-old woman from behind in Debdale Park, forced her down an embankment and raped her at knifepoint.

A DNA sample from his last victim identified the attacker as Suddons, who worked as a health club lifeguard.

After seizing his computer, detectives found records which showed he had bragged about his attacks in internet chat rooms.

Suddons also admitted charges of owning a weapon and false imprisonment.
