Link road revamp plans unveiled
A556 in Cheshire
More than 50,000 drivers use the road each day
Major plans to improve a busy road that links the M6 and the M56 go on public display on Tuesday.

Engineers have come up with new proposals after the government rejected the idea of building a new motorway to replace the congested A556 in Cheshire.

The principal route, which links the M6 with Greater Manchester, has a poor safety record.

Engineers want to introduce safety measures and a new £1.5m junction at the Bucklow Hill interchange.

The road is used by more than 50,000 drivers a day travelling between the two motorways.

Plans were in place to upgrade the link into a motorway but the scheme was rejected on environmental grounds.
