Psychic prompts new search
Vincent Derrick
The psychic told police a man called Vinny had tried to contact her
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they restarted a search for a missing man after receiving information from a psychic.

It is understood the medium discovered the information about Vinny Derrick at an unrelated meeting.

But officers have told the BBC the information was so convincing they decided to carry out a further search.

She said someone called Vinny had been trying to contact her and that he told her the police dogs had nearly found him.

Detectives then brought the psychic out to Cheadle and she led them to several areas which they were searching on Wednesday.

Officers said they felt they had to act because if they had not and Mr Derrick's body was in the area, they "would not be able to forgive themselves".

Father-of-one Mr Derrick was originally from Castle Donnington, Leicestershire, but had moved to Partington, Greater Manchester.

He has not been seen since 30 August when he got a taxi to the Cheadle area from a Manchester club.

His wife Vicky made a national TV appeal for her husband's safe return on Wednesday.

Sliproad closure

The search involves an area around Alexandra Hospital and a reservoir off Mill Lane, as well as a section of the Stockport to Altrincham railway line.

Part of the sliproad at junction four of the M60 was also due to be closed while a search was carried out.

British Transport Police officers were checking a section of the railway that passes a spot where a witness believes they saw Vinny on the day he disappeared.

The 28-year-old, from Orchard Avenue, disappeared after he left the Jabez Clegg club in Manchester at about 0100 BST, to travel to his boss's house where he was due to stay the night.
