Serial sex attacker strikes again

New e-fit of attacker
Police say they have linked 106 raids to the man over a 19-year period

A serial sex attacker and burglar responsible for more than 100 attacks on pensioners across south-east London has struck again.

A police spokeswoman said a number of incidents in the last month had been referred to Operation Minstead, the unit set up to capture the suspect.

But she added only one of these had so far been confirmed as being linked with the attacker, who first struck in 1990.

The spokeswoman said one woman had been assaulted in the latest incident.

The burglary brings the total number of raids linked to the man during a 19-year period to at least 106.

Horrific injuries

The attacks have taken place in areas including Dulwich, Orpington, Norwood, Downham, Lee, West Wickham and Bickley.

Although the vast majority of his victims have been women, police said they also include 10 elderly men, one of whom suffered a sexual attack.

Police said the man has raped four victims, one of whom suffered horrific injuries and almost died in surgery.

Detectives believe the suspect is an employed black man, aged between 35 and 45, who masks his crimes behind the veneer of a respectable life.

£40,000 reward

Forensic investigations have shown he originates from the Windward Islands in the Caribbean.

Police added the suspect could be living, visiting or working in the Honor Oak or Forest Hill area.

A reward of £40,000 has been offered for information leading to the attacker's arrest and conviction.

The Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said: "A number of incidents in the last month have been referred to Operation Minstead.

"Only one incident so far has been confirmed as an Operation Minstead investigation, the others may still turn out to be nothing to do with Operation Minstead."
