Man remanded over stabbing death

A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a 17-year-old stabbed to death in south London.

Steven Braithwaite, 30, of no fixed address, appeared before Sutton magistrates accused of murdering Nilanthan Murddi in Croydon.

Nilanthan died from a single stab wound to the throat in Sumner Road, on Saturday morning.

The case was adjourned until 27 November when Mr Braithwaite will appear at the Old Bailey.

The teenager, who lived in the New Addington area of Croydon, became the 23rd teenager to be killed in London this year.
