Driver arrested over baby death

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 10-month-old baby boy died in a car crash in east London.

Julian Dhawan was travelling in the back of an Audi with his 34-year-old mother when the vehicle was involved in a collision with a black taxi cab.

The driver of the Audi was questioned before being released on bail.

Police were called to Chigwell Road at 1700 BST on Saturday, where they found the child suffering multiple injuries.

He was pronounced dead at Whipps Cross Hospital at 1911BST.

A post-mortem examination at Great Ormond Street Hospital found he died of head injuries, police said.

The baby's mother and the Audi's driver were taken to an east London hospital suffering from minor injuries.

The 48-year-old cab driver was cut from his vehicle and taken to an east London hospital where he remains in a stable condition, police said.

Two other vehicles were involved in the collision - a Vauxhall Astra and a VW Golf. Both drivers were treated for minor injuries.
