No-one was hurt when a man ran onto the runway with a rucksack
Police have charged a man accused of triggering a major security alert at Heathrow Airport by allegedly running towards the runway.

Ketheeswaran Uthayakumar, 27, of no fixed abode, has been charged with aircraft endangerment at the UK's biggest airport.

He is due to appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court, west London, on Saturday.

Mr Uthayakumar was arrested at the airport on Thursday afternoon.

Some flights were delayed as the runway was affected for two hours on Thursday.

The security alert came 24 hours before the Queen was to officially open Terminal 5 at the west London airport.

The southern runway remained open throughout the incident which ended just before 1600 GMT.
