Footballer convicted over robbery

Footballer Ashley Sestanovich is facing a jail sentence after being convicted of helping plan a payroll robbery during which a man was killed.

Sestanovich, 26, was convicted of conspiracy to rob a roofing firm in Streatham, south London.

The raid led to the death of Thomas Fahey, 42, who was shot in the chest at close range while visiting his brother at the office in June 2005.

Sestanovich, of Clapham, south London, will be sentenced at a later date.

Died in hospital

Damien Ennis, 25 of Tulse Hill, and Hallroy Reid, 40 of Battersea, denied murder but were convicted by the jury.

Reid said he fired the gun which killed Mr Fahey but he and Ennis said they did not intend to kill him.

They were found guilty of planning to rob the roofing company. They too will be sentenced at a later date.

Mr Fahey died of his wounds in hospital six months after the raid.

Played football together

Carl Gibbs, 26, who worked for the roofing firm, was cleared of taking part in the conspiracy.

He was accused of passing on details of the firm's pay schedule to Sestanovich when the pair played football together at non-league Farnborough Town.

The footballer had played for a number of teams, including Sheffield United, Manchester City and Grimsby Town.

He also doubled for Arsenal star Thierry Henry's in TV advertisements for clothing company Nike.
