Detectives have described the murder of a father in front of his two young children as he took them to school as a callous and well planned killing.

Jason Greene, 29, was in a car with his sons, aged four and eight, in Chalk Hill, Wembley, north-west London, on Tuesday morning when he was shot.

Police said more than one gunman approached the car and at least two shots were fired.

The killers had emerged from two cars that were later found on fire.

Mr Greene's eldest son was in the front passenger seat when the shooting happened.

Det Ch Insp Scott Wilson said the men appeared from two vehicles, a silver Volkswagen Golf convertible, registration Y384 CDK, and a green Vauxhall Vectra, registration N409 YOG, which were parked either side of Mr Greene's silver Audi.

The detective added Mr Greene had suffered gun shot wounds to the body and that the silver Golf convertible had previously been reported stolen.

"This was a callous killing in front of two young children," Mr Wilson said.

"The people who did this didn't have any regard for others, there were other children in the area going to school and they opened fire in broad daylight."

Police were alerted to the shooting when a member of the public called to report a man with a gun in Bowater Road at about 0830 BST. Minutes later further calls were made to report the shooting.

The children are being cared for by family members.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to the shooting or anyone who saw the two cars being abandoned to come forward.

Post-mortem tests showed the victim died from gunshot wounds to the chest.
