Blackpool's 220m Talbot Gateway project gets go-ahead

Talbot Gateway scheme
Work is set to start next year

A £220m transformation planned for seaside resort Blackpool, with new hotels, shops and restaurants, has been given the go-ahead.

The Talbot Gateway project also includes offices, a supermarket, police station and courts on the site near Blackpool North train station.

Councillors in the resort granted planning permission on Monday night.

Work is expected to start on the project next year, creating hundreds of jobs.

The project is one of a number planned to revitalise Blackpool.

More than 9.8m people visited the resort in 2007, compared with about 20m a year during the 1980s.
