Milk ad star is guest of honour
Carl Rice
Carl Rice is now a writer and stand up comedian
The child star who mentioned Accrington Stanley in a milk advert was guest of honour at the team's Conference match against Stevenage on Saturday.

Carl Rice, 26, of Manchester, was one of the boys in the advert 18 years ago, which became well-known for its phrase: "Accrington Stanley, who are they?"

At the time Stanley were a non league club having dropped out in 1962.

Now the Nationwide Conference League leaders are on the verge of returning to the Football League.

The club has invited Mr Rice to a game as part of its resurgence.

In the advert the young boy tells his friend as he drinks a pint of milk that Ian Rush, the former Liverpool star, says if he does not drink milk he will only be good enough to play for Accrington Stanley.

His friend replies "Accrington Stanley - who are they?"

The boy responds in broad Scouse, "Exactly".
