Car transporter fire closes route

Police said no one was hurt in the fire on the M2

A Kent motorway was closed for two hours during the evening rush hour when a car transporter caught fire.

Emergency services were called to the M2 coast-bound carriageway between junctions three and four near Chatham at 1752 GMT.

A spokeswoman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the transporter and the seven cars it was carrying were all destroyed in the blaze.

No one was hurt in the incident and the road reopened shortly before 2000 GMT.
