The jury in the trial of comedy actor Chris Langham has been shown five images of child pornography allegedly found on his computer.

Judge Philip Statman halted proceedings when one female juror was left in tears after being shown the pictures taken from video clips.

Mr Langham, 58, from Kent, denies indecent assault and a serious sexual offence on a girl under 18.

He also denies 15 counts of making an indecent image of a child in 2005.

'Common sense'

The jury at Maidstone Crown Court was shown the images by the prosecution so they could see their quality.

But they upset the woman and other jurors also appeared distressed while looking at the pictures.

On returning to court, after proceedings were halted, Judge Statman said there was no reason for the jury to see any more images.

He also repeated that sometimes jurors were asked to look at material which was distressing.

"But the vital thing you bring with you to your position as jurors is good common sense and at the end of the day the most important thing for us is to ensure that the defendant has a fair trial," he said.

The court was told the video clips ranged in length from three seconds to nearly six minutes, and the titles made reference to "Kiddy 11-year-old", "13-year-old preteen underage" and "preteen sex education".
