A man accused of child pornography offences in Canada faces a further four charges, it has been revealed.

Mark Gary Bedford, 21, of Kingston in Ontario, who already faced 12 charges, appeared before the town's Court of Justice on Thursday.

He is now also charged with sexual assault, extortion, mischief of property and impersonating with intent.

Kent Police expect charges relating to up to 42 young girls from west Kent to be brought against him.

Mr Bedford is accused of tricking British girls into stripping and performing sex acts over a webcam.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in court again on 16 August, court spokeswoman Joyce Williams said.

Mr Bedford was arrested last month in a joint operation between Kent Police and Canadian authorities.

British authorities became involved after a concerned parent contacted Kent Police in April.
