A rock star drummer has visited a children's hospice as he launches a solo album in aid of the facility.

Andy Burrows from Razorlight met youngsters at Naomi House Hospice, Winchester, and said proceeds from the album would go to the charity.

The musician grew up in the local area and has often visited the centre.

He is also auctioning one of his drum kits on the internet with the cash going to the Jacks Place appeal to build a new hospice for young people.

He visited children on Friday and said: "This place is just phenomenal, whenever I come down here I'm blown away by the spirit of the kids and the people that work here.

"I wanted to do something to try and raise a bit of money and awareness.

"I'm also selling my beloved green Ludwig drum kit, so get bidding."

The Naomi House charity recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and offers free respite care for children in southern England.

It needs 3.5m annually to survive with 300,000 a year coming from the government.
