Four companies have been asked to work on detailed plans for a waste facility in Gloucestershire. The proposals involve different technologies to process waste which cannot be recycled. At present, much of this waste is sent to landfill sites - but councils must now find alternatives or face government penalties. The companies selected are: Complete Circle; Cory Environmental Management Ltd; Urbaser and Viridor. A Gloucestershire County Council spokesman said: "While we aren't allowed to go into detail about the bids at this stage, I can say that they propose a variety of technologies, including different types of mechanical biological treatment (MBT) as well as energy from waste. "While all the bids use Javelin Park for parts of the process, in some cases final processing takes place outside Gloucestershire. Now these companies need to work up the details of exactly what they are proposing."
