Southend University Hospital bans visitors over bug

An Essex hospital has banned visitors because of an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

Patients on wards at Southend University Hospital have suffered diarrhoea and sickness, symptoms of the norovirus.

A spokesman said patients not affected by the bug should still attend their hospital appointments, but staff will contact anyone due for surgery.

People can still collect patients who are ready to leave hospital, he said.
