Scuba divers are to take part in a clean up of rivers in an Essex borough.

Chelmsford Council is organising the event on 13 October and council staff, local organisations and residents are being encouraged to help.

Divers from the Orca Scuba Diving Academy will collect rubbish from the river depths and boats will be on the water picking up floating debris.

Litter picking will be carried out along the banks and surrounding areas and all equipment will be provided.

The council will also launch its Love Your Environment campaign to encourage residents of all ages to get involved in volunteering activities to improve their environment.

The event starts at 0830 BST from Wharf Road car park, but helpers can turn up at any time during the morning and work for as much time as they can spare.
