A cygnet that had swallowed a fishing hook and became entangled in the line has been rescued by Dorset fire crews.

The RSPCA contacted emergency services after the animal was spotted struggling in Ham Pond, Hamworthy, on Wednesday.

Fire crews used an inflatable boat to catch the cygnet, which was badly entangled, and bring it ashore.

It was handed over to the RSPCA and taken to a local vet for treatment. It will be taken to a swan sanctuary later to continue its recovery.
