Investigation as six Derbyshire birds of prey poisoned

Anyone harming or killing buzzards faces up to six months in prison

The suspected poisoning of six birds of prey in Derbyshire is being investigated by police.

Earlier this month four Buzzards were found on land near Kirk Ireton, next to the remains of a pheasant, which is believed to have been poisoned bait.

Officers are looking into any link to the discovery of two dead Buzzards in Idridgehay in February, after tests confirmed they had been poisoned.

Derbyshire Police are working with the RSPB and Natural England.

The buzzard is the UK's most common bird of prey, with up to 44,000 breeding pairs.

They are a protected species and anyone caught harming or killing them could face a £5,000 fine or up to six months in prison.
