Extra 6m awarded to county's GPs

GPs in Cumbria have been given an extra 6m to spend this year.

The money, from the county's primary care trust, is to be invested in new equipment, education and training, and extending the range of services.

The cash is being allocated directly to doctors in each of the county's six districts and is being shared according to the number of people in each area.

Allerdale will get 1.2m, Barrow 1.1m, Carlisle 1.2m, Copeland 0.8m, Eden 0.6m and South Lakeland 1.1m.
