M45 murder man drawing released

Artist's impression of M45 murder victim
Police are not certain what ethnicity the man was

An artist's impression has been released of a murdered man whose badly-burned body was found dumped by a motorway in Warwickshire.

Police do not know the identity or even the ethnicity of the man who was found by the M45 near Rugby on 30 December.

A post-mortem examination revealed he had suffered substantial head injuries.

Det Supt Adrian McGee said he hoped the artist's impression of the dead man would "jog people's memories" and encourage people to come forward.

Officers have been carrying out checks on the motorway one week after the body was found, using vehicle number plate recognition technology to track vehicles.

CCTV cameras from a number of locations have been examined in the past week.

Detectives have also been utilising Bluetooth technology by sending alerts to the mobile phones of people who stop at the northbound and southbound service stations at Watford Gap on the M1.

Jog memories

Police said the man had distinctive hair and teeth, facial hair and long sideburns or a full beard and was aged between 45 and 75.

DNA information and palm prints have been sent to Interpol and officers are also working with the the national Missing Persons Bureau and other UK police forces to try to identify the man.

Det Supt McGee said: "Someone knows who he was and we hope that these new images will jog people's memories and they will come forward and tell us who he was.

"We are not certain of his ethnicity so we are keeping an open mind at this stage.

"Did you work with him or see him at the job centre? Was he part of your social network or did you see him in the street?

"I appeal to everyone to think hard about friends, family members or colleagues who they have not seen or heard from recently and also to anyone who may have seen someone who looked like this man in any location or situation."
