Marine unit is set for expansion
Defence Police vessel
Twenty new staff will be employed
The Royal Navy's police marine unit, which covers 112 sq miles of South West waters, is to expand.

More staff are needed to counter the increased global security threat.

The marine unit, which is based at Devonport Naval Base in Plymouth, is responsible for policing the area of water from Ernesettle to Rame Head.

An important part of its responsibilities is to protect the naval base and escort its vessels in and out of Plymouth Sound.

A new accommodation block has already been built and 20 new staff will now be employed, taking the unit's number to almost 70.
