Baby who died was being monitored

A six-week-old baby who died on Wednesday was being monitored by social services, Cambridgeshire County Council has confirmed.

The baby girl was taken to a doctor's surgery in Milton and was declared dead on arrival at Addenbrooke's Hospital.

A 40-year-old woman was arrested over the death and was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.

The council confirmed the family was known to social services and had been subject to a Child Protection Plan.

The council said a statement: "The county council was made aware of the tragic death of a child on Wednesday.

"The police investigation is ongoing and we are currently supporting their work.

"The independently-chaired Serious Case Review Panel will consider all aspects of this case in detail and are commissioning a serious case review."

A post-mortem examination into the cause of the baby's death proved inconclusive and further tests will be carried out.
