Slave name row debate postponed
A debate over the controversial renaming of a revamped area of Bristol has been postponed.

Councillors were due to discuss objections to calling the new 500m redevelopment of Broadmead shopping centre the Merchants' Quarter.

Some groups complained the name was offensive because of its connotations with the city's slave trading past.

Bristol Alliance, which is behind the project, said merchants had played a crucial role in the story of the city.

A motion was due to go before the city council on Tuesday questioning the consultation process but the debate was postponed until June.
