Concorde winner 'scared of flying'
Barbara and Martin Curry

A woman who is afraid of flying has won the trip of a lifetime, on Concorde.

Barbara Curry, from Kingswood in Bristol, and her husband Martin will be among the last passengers on British Aiways' supersonic airliner.

Mrs Curry won a pair of tickets to be on one of Concorde's final flights in a British Airways competition to mark the plane's retirement.

And as her big day approaches, the administration assistant is becoming more and more nervous.

"I don't like flying," she said. "I flew when I was 19 and had a terrible time.

"There was thunder and lightning and we had to keep our seatbelts on for the whole trip.

"I said then 'Never again'."

She added: "A couple of years ago my husband convinced me to fly off on holiday, but I still don't like it."

Mrs Curry enters competitions regularly, but until recently the biggest prize she had won was a weekend at a hotel in London.

On Thursday, she will step aboard Concorde for a champagne flight from Cardiff to Heathrow via the Bay of Biscay.
