Footballer turned actor Vinnie Jones has been charged over alleged drunken and violent behaviour on an aeroplane.

The 38-year-old former Wimbledon midfielder is accused of being drunk and threatening a crew member on a flight from London's Heathrow to Japan.

He is also alleged to have assaulted a passenger during the Virgin Atlantic service on 1 June this year.

Mr Jones, who has been in films such as Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, is due before magistrates on 5 December.

Metropolitan Police released a statement on Friday which said Mr Jones, from Tring in Hertfordshire, had been charged with a number of offences on an aeroplane.

They were being drunk on an aircraft, using threatening, abusive or insulting words to a member of the crew and common assault on a male passenger.

Mr Jones captained Wales and also played for Chelsea and Leeds and was player-coach at Queens Park Rangers before turning to acting.

He appeared alongside Brad Pitt in Snatch and in Hollywood films Gone in 60 Seconds and Mean Machine.

Mr Jones is due to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates Court on 5 December.
