Youth denies cabbie manslaughter

A teenager has denied killing a taxi driver in a row over the fare.

Raymond Quigley, 72, from Gateshead, died following a dispute with a passenger he dropped off in Ryhope, Sunderland, on 2 September last year.

Dale Patterson, 18, of Manila Street, Sunderland, has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and making off without paying.

He was released on conditional bail to stand trial at Newcastle Crown Court on 11 August.

The case was listed for five days.
