Police in Sussex have been reassuring residents there is no plan to search further properties after the bodies of two girls were found in a Kent house.

The force said a detective had visited homes in Brighton and Hove.

Investigations at the house in Margate are continuing, with officers expected to remain there until Friday.

The bodies of Vicky Hamilton, 15, from near Falkirk and Dinah McNicol, 18, from Essex, were found buried in the back garden of Irvine Drive last week.

Detectives said the focus of the search in Margate was now on gathering evidence.

Missing females

Excavation work outside the house was completed early this week and police have since been focusing their attentions inside, looking for any evidence linked to the disappearance of the two girls.

Det Supt Tim Wills, of Essex Police, said: "We are looking for evidence now rather than people. That could be just a very small thing."

Both girls went missing in 1991.

Vicky was last seen in Bathgate, West Lothian, while Dinah failed to return home to Tillingham from a trip to Hampshire.

Peter Tobin, 61, has been charged in Scotland with the murder of Vicky.

He appeared at Linlithgow Sheriff Court last week, and is due to return to court on Thursday.

Nationally the police are continuing Operation Anagram, which aims to establish if the discoveries in Margate are linked to other unsolved cases.

Sussex Police said that a detective co-ordinating the force's response to the scoping inquiry had been visiting residents in Brighton and Hove.

Det Ch Supt Kevin Moore, head of Sussex CID, said their inquiry was focusing on missing females in particular.
