Castle party marking end of WWII
World War Two medals
Veterans are remembering the end of World War II 60 years ago
Commemorations to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II continued in the South East on Sunday.

A Victory Party at Dover Castle, and a special service in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, were among the events taking place on National Commemoration Day.

The castle in Kent hosted a 1940s-style street party, complete with nostalgic music and dance, to recall the celebrations of the time.

In Haywards Heath, poppy crosses were laid in the town's cemetery.

'Day of thanks'

It was followed by a ceremony of thanksgiving at the war memorial on Muster Green.

The "day of thanks" was finishing with a party with music provided by the town's brass band.

Another event being held close by saw a procession through the village of Lindfield, and a joint service of remembrance held by its three churches.

A picnic on Lindfield Common followed.

Nostalgia Roadshow

In Kent, visitors to Dover Castle were encouraged to wear 1940s-style VE Day celebratory dress.

A Nostalgia Roadshow was held in a marquee on the site during the event, enabling people to bring along items of interest from the 1940s.

Experts were on hand to identify the objects, with period equipment and posters also on display.

In Broadstairs, the town's Sea Sunday was combined with the World War II commemorations.

The day included a parade and a flypast of planes, including spitfires.
