The sister of murdered Brighton teacher Jane Longhurst is to sit on the board of a organisation which fights internet-related crime.

Sue Barnett has agreed to be business development director of the Internet Awareness and Advisory Foundation.

Miss Longhurst was murdered by Graham Coutts, a Hove musician, who admitted at his trial to an obsession with pornography featuring asphyxiation.

Her family have campaigned for stronger internet regulations since his trial.

Coutts, 35, was jailed for life after his conviction last month.

Lewes Crown Court heard he had looked at graphic pornography featuring women being strangled shortly before killing Miss Longhurst.

Her family have met with Home Secretary David Blunkett to ask for his help in getting websites specialising in such things as necrophilia and asphyxiation closed down.

On Thursday it was revealed Ms Barnett, who is from Reading, was joining the board of the Internet Awareness and Advisory Foundation (IAAF), where her role will be to build relationships with the media and government and promoting campaigns.

The IAAF is campaigning for the government to set up an internet blacklist to block illegal internet content from being viewed within the UK.

Ms Barnett said: "Complacency and excuses are not enough.

"At the end of Jane's trial we were told that it was too difficult to stop people in the UK viewing those sorts of despicable websites.

"Even if we only manage to initially stop 70% of illegal material being viewed in the UK at least we are trying to do something about it."
