Police are continuing to examine farmland near Bath in the inquiry into the disappearance in 1996 of 25-year-old Melanie Hall.

The search for clues is in a field at Inglesbatch, which is usually used for motorcycling.

Motorcross riders who meet there on Saturdays were told to stay away for two weeks.

Police acting on new information are sifting through a specific mound of earth and the search is now in its fifth day.

Charity shop

Detectives are working on the theory that this is the spot where they may find evidence leading them to the remains of Melanie Hall.

The farm has also been searched as well as a house in Inglesbatch and the cellars of a charity shop in Bath which was a taxi company at the time Melanie went missing.

Two men arrested in connection with the inquiry into her disappearance have been bailed by police.

The men - in their 30s and from the Bath area - were arrested on Wednesday and released on Thursday.

Miss Hall, from Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, disappeared in the early hours of Sunday 9 June 1996 after a night out.

She was last seen in Cadillacs nightclub.
