Callous thieves stole a dog from three children in the Henbury district of Bristol.
The theft of the 15-week-old Staffordshire cross took place at 1600 GMT on 15 February.
A man and a woman approached the three boys, who were playing in the grounds of the Blaise Castle estate, and told them that they were being cruel to the dog, threatening to call the RSPCA.
As the children left the estate and walked down Kingsweston Road, a car pulled alongside and the man who had appeared earlier got out and grabbed the animal.

Tracey Hilton, the mother of the young children, told BBC news Online: "I am really upset about it. It was the best dog I ever had.
"My boys are still distressed as well."
The car is described as a D-reg light brown Rover, and the man as white, aged between 25 and 30.
He was of stocky build, with short-cropped black hair, a moustache and wearing a black jacket.
Enid Callard, of Pet Search, said: "There have been four dogs stolen in the area recently - from Bath, Frome, Knowle and Fishponds.
"It is happening more and more and we appeal to people not to leave their pets unattended."
Police have appealed for witnesses.
