Dog injured in 'sustained attack'
The RSPCA is investigating the attack
Animal welfare officials are investigating an attack on a boxer dog.
It happened on 31 January in Belton, Isle of Axholme but details have only just been released by the RSPCA. The dog, called Lewis, was set upon in the back garden of his owner's house in Stool Close Road. He was punched in the head until it had swollen to twice its normal size. 'Howling in pain' Blood is said to have been coming from the dog's eyes, ears and nose. After emergency treatment, Lewis is on his way back to health. But he is now said to be a timid and reclusive dog. RSPCA Inspector Kat Thornburn said: "Whoever attacked him kicked his way into the garden ripping the hinges off the gate in the process. "Someone must have heard the dog howling in pain during what was a sustained a lengthy attack." Anyone with information is asked to ring the RSPCA on 08705 555999.
