Low cost flights at Leeds Bradford
Leeds Bradford International Airport
The region will have its first low cost airline
A new low cost airline is being launched at Leeds Bradford International Airport, creating up to 200 jobs.

Jet 2 will be operating four planes out of the region from February next year to destinations across Europe.

Airport managing director Ed Anderson said: "There is a huge demand for this service in Yorkshire and we are delighted that Jet 2 has decided to choose Leeds Bradford International Airport."

Jet 2 is a division of the Dart Group based in Bournemouth.

Cargo flights

Using quick change aircraft, the company plans to operate passenger services during the day and cargo flights at night.

It hopes to tap into a market of 9.5 million people living in the area.

Dart Group chief executive Philip Meeson said: "With Jet 2 we will be meeting the local community's strong demand for low cost air travel.

"For the first time people in the region will be able to benefit from European low cost travel on their doorstep."

Routes and fares will be announced next month.
