Moxon imagined he was part of a computer game

A 24-year-old man stabbed his girlfriend to death because he thought she was part of an internet game and sent to kill him.

Christopher Moxon, from Burgess Hill in West Sussex, was ordered to be detained indefinitely at a mental hospital on Monday after admitting to the killing.

Moxon, a welder, told police he believed he and Natalie Scott, 21, were involved in an internet game and she had been sent to kill him.

Lewes Crown Court heard that he cut her throat and stabbed her 25 times at her flat in Bognor Regis last February.

It is unclear if Moxon had been playing computer games or surfing the internet in the months before Miss Scott's death.

Moxon pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility.

Judge Richard Brown was told he had been suffering from severe mental delusions prior to the attack, and told detectives he had to kill her to save himself.

He also believed the Russians had made five attempts to assassinate him.

Miss Scott's throat, wrist, heart and lungs were pierced in the attack.

The two had lived together at her flat until three weeks before her death.

Moxon was arrested at his parents' home in Burgess Hill.

The judge ordered him to be sent to a secure hospital for treatment, and as a way to protect the public.

In sentencing, the judge described Natalie, an insurance consultant, as a kind and loving person.
