Bank losses 'in line with expectations'

Financial Secretary to the Treasury Stephen Timms has said the losses made by the Lloyds Banking Group in the first half of the year were in line with expectations.

The group made a loss of £4bn in the first six months of 2009. It is partly-owned by the government after being bailed out last year following the takeover of HBOS.
