The number of unemployed people in Japan has risen to 2.46m - the highest since records began in 1953.
The monthly government report shows 3.6% of the workforce were looking for jobs in February.
The latest figure is 0.1% up on January, which was the fourth month that the unemployment rate had remained static at 3.5%
Job losses in the manufacturing and construction sectors helped push the total up, the Management and Co-ordination Agency said.
Year on year figures show the number of unemployed has risen by 7%, or 160,000 people.
