Road rage and mugging insurance arrives
A wallet
100 in cash is covered
The UK's first mugging and road rage insurance product has been launched.

Acumen insurance will cover the loss of personal possessions or injuries suffered as a result of a mugging or road rage assault.

Policyholders who are permanently injured can receive a one-off payout of up to 25,000 in return for annual premiums starting at 16.99.

The insurer said its Body Guard policy addressed the shortcomings of standard home and motor insurance cover.

'Getting worse'

The level of cover offered was about ten times greater than a standard home or motor insurance policy, the company said.

It added that it was responding to the growing number of mugging and road rage incidents.

"The level of street crime in the UK is still alarmingly high and tempers on the road are getting worse," Kevin Kenny, director of Acumen insurance, said.

"Although street crime is high on the political agenda, the public is increasingly concerned about personal safety with surveys showing over 40% specifically worried about mugging," Mr Kenny added.
